McMinnville Garden Club installs officers to assume duties in April
Hilda Cantrell presided in the absence of Peggie McColloch as she reminded the attendees of the name change for the National Council which is now National Garden Clubs, Inc.
This was the last meeting of the 2001-02 year. Since a new year will begin in April, dues are now due; orders for the 2003 Vision of Beauty Calendars were taken and reservations made for the District II Membership Meeting April 10 at Opryland Springhouse Golf Club. Announcement was made of the Design Program June 4 at Belle Meade United Methodist Church in Nashville and followed by the Presidents Meeting.
Since McMinnville Garden Club was organized April 26, 1927, “Celebrating our 75th Year in Gardening” was chosen as the theme for the new yearbook. The program theme will be “Getting to Know Them” – strange and uncommon plants and their place in the world. Programs were assigned to members and July was planned for the club’s celebration of the past 75 years.
As correspondence was read, the club was invited by the Ben Lomond Garden Club to join its members Aug. 2 for a flower arranging workshop.
Judging was as follows:
Exhibit – “Fresh as a Spring Rain,” Martha Gillespie, blue, and Hilda Cantrell, red, for creative design; and Gillespie, blue, on traditional design.
Members remained for lunch at the Bird’s Nest Cafe.
