Step into spring with bright colors
Energizing the ladies’ fashion roster this spring will be lots of bright colors, such as lime, butter, coral, turquoise and periwinkle, according to Patti Guillot, misses clothing buyer for a family clothing store located in this area.
“Related separates like skirts, pants, fitted jackets and sweater sets will be tied together with vibrant colors that will perk up every woman’s wardrobe,” she said.
Silk shantung, linen and shiny cotton sateen are all important fabrics in the spring line-up, Guillot said. “Our new Good Clothes collection features many tops, bottoms and coordinating outfits in these light, feel-good fabrics.” Stretch is also back in a big way, offering versatility and figure-flattering styling.
Cropped pants – whether in capri, flood or ankle-length – lead the fashion parade again this spring.
“With a variety of lengths, colors, prints and fabrics, every shopper is sure to find something she likes in this category,” noted misses clothing buyer Kelly Smith. Look for one-pleat and no-waist styles, as well as cuffed bottoms. Pretty gingham, floral and plaid patterns will be as popular as the solid version of these trendy pants.
Pair these cropped pants with a smart top or sweater set for casual outings. Choose from narrow or bold stripes or color blocks. Cap sleeves may be the most popular sleeve length this season.
“Elbow length sleeves are also hot now, with tank and sleeveless styles coming into play as the weather gets warmer,” buyer Beth Colotta said. Embellished tees, especially with flower and fruit patterns, provide a fresh look in the coming months.
Also making headlines on the spring fashion scene is the new oriental-look print called “toile.” Some patterns feature just small vines and flowers, while others depict people and country settings in a hand-drawn fashion. These prints are most popular in red, black and khaki.
Don’t count out the traditional black-and-white color scheme either, especially with updated details such as border piping and diagonal lines. Look for the Americana theme to be proudly displayed, especially around Memorial Day and Flag Day, with new twists of red-white-and-blue.
Add flare to a new spring wardrobe with stylish accessories such as jewelry, shoes and bags. Colorful, open fabric slides will adorn fashionable feet, while straw handbags, especially the short shoulder variety, are a must. Don’t forget the rimless or color-tinted sunglasses to finish the look.
