Humane Society reveals 2003 budget
Who pays for this? The county provides $22,000 annually. The city of McMinnville pays so much per animal, and then there are fundraisers, money from adoptions and donations.
The shelter in Warren County is very small and has limited space. So what happens to unacceptable animals? Some are fostered out. Some are sent to rescue groups. Some are kept at the shelter as long as there is room. If room runs out, their days are numbered.
As a result, the local animal shelter needs all the help it can get. In an effort to make the public aware of the substantial funds it takes to run a shelter, even a shelter the size of the one in Warren County, Humane Society officials want their budget figures to be published.
In the year ending Dec. 31, 2003 the local shelter budget was as follows:

Not only does the shelter need funds for normal operation, there are several projects that will require additional funds. Some of the things the shelter needs are $40,000 for a new incinerator, around $16,000 for past due payroll taxes from 1999 (2003 taxes have been paid), food (it takes about 150 pounds per day), bleach, some new runs, dog houses, medicine, laundry detergent and cat litter.
