Morrison boys, Dibrell girls nab wins

In junior varsity tournament action Thursday night, Morrison’s boys topped Dibrell 45-31 while Dibrell’s girls picked up a 36-17 win over Irving College.

The tournament, with teams consisting of players from the sixth and seventh grade, was played at Eastside.

In the Lady Wildcats’ win over Irving College, Virginia Prater led the way with 13 points, including six in the second quarter. But Dibrell’s defense was the difference-maker, as they held the Lady Tigers to just two points in the first half to take a 17-2 lead by intermission.

In addition to Prater’s 13, the Lady Wildcats got eight points from Ashley Welcome, six each from Chelsea Bunn and Lauren Wilkinson, two from Sarah Roller and one from Emily Tucker.

Irving College was led by Abril Amperan’s seven points, with DaRae Wells adding six. Kerrie Greene and Callie Griffith had two each.

The Morrison boys got off to a strong start, taking a 12-2 lead over the Wildcats by the end of the first quarter.

Although the Wildcats picked up their offensive production through the game’s final three quarters, the Eagles’ early start propelled them to the win.

Bobby Fults had 18 points to lead the Eagles’ winning effort, while Casey Dunn scored 10 and Zack West had six. Dakota Taylor netted five, with Jonathan Holland, Charlie Krickel and Garrett Hoke adding two each. Dibrell’s Taylor Barrett scored 17 points, Cody Bond had nine, and Derek Mikkola and Lou Christian had two each while James Mitchell scored one point.
