Broncos swept on the road

The Boyd Broncos traveled to South Pittsburg Tuesday, with Boyd falling in the girls’ game 56-47 and the boys came up four points short losing 57-53.

In the girls game, South Pittsburg out-scored the Lady Broncos in the first three periods. Kati Sutton provided most of the Lady Broncos’ offense in the first half, with Boyd totaling 25 points by the break. The Lady Pirates hit for 21 in the first period and added 15 in the second for a 36-25 lead at halftime.

The third period was close with both teams struggling from the field. South Pittsburgh outscored Boyd 11-8 in the period. In the final period the Lady Broncos started to close the gap with solid defense leading the way, but time was on the Lady Pirates’ side. Boyd hit for 14 points in the quarter with the Lady Broncos hitting the offensive glass but time expired giving South Pittsburg the win.

For Boyd, Sutton had 21 points, Tabitha King hit for nine, Lydia Powell had six, Tenara Jones had five, Mary Reynolds had four and Amber Brewer added two points.

In the boys game, Boyd started very aggressive on offense and took a 13-10 lead by the end of the first period. In the second South Pittsburg came charging back with defense and hitting the offensive boards to take the lead by half-time 27-25.

In the third South Pittsburg’s defense slowed Boyd’s run and gun offense, holding the Broncos to 12 points while posting 16 points of their own for a 43-37 lead going into the fourth quarter. Boyd stepped up its offense in the final period, but struggled to slow down South Pittsburg’s offense. Boyd hit for 16 points in the period but the Pirates added 14 to keep their lead and take the win.

Boyd was led by Clint Patterson with 17 points. Sam Medley had 10, Jay Medley and Casey Hertwig had eight points each. Kenneth King put in seven and Dustin Curtis added three points.
