Couple arrested for large amount of meth
A Greenwood Drive couple was arrested Tuesday after lawmen found an alleged meth lab inside their home located in a middle-class subdivision off Viola Highway.
The suspects, James Stacy, 49, and Elaine Stacy, 51, are both charged with manufacture of meth and possession of meth for resale when deputies found the lab components in their home.
According to Sheriff Jackie Matheny, deputies went to the Stacy home looking for Mrs. Stacy’s son who is wanted on unrelated arrest warrants. While inside, deputies reported seeing numerous items commonly used in the production of meth. The items included, but were not limited to muratic acid, 110 grams of ephedrine, numerous boxes of matches which are used to extract red phosphorous, and 37 grams of red phosphorous.
Lawmen also reportedly found 20 grams of a substance believed to be meth during their search. Most of the lab components were found in a small laundry room.
Matheny said the amount of meth components was an unusually large amount in comparison to an average lab.
“Twenty grams of meth and that much ephedrine is unusual to find,” Matheny said. “Normally you don’t find more than a handful, but this was quite a bit.”
Matheny said they also found $10,335 cash on Mr. Stacy’s person. Mrs. Stacy’s son, who lawmen were originally looking for, was not found at the residence.
