Lady Pioneers fall at Franklin Co.; bats go cold in 6-2 loss
Warren County High School’s softball team fell to 2-3 Monday with a loss on the road to Franklin County, 6-2.
For the Lady Pioneers the bats went cold Monday, with only three hits in the game. Warren County played four solid innings of defense, holding the Lady Rebels to just four hits, and scored in the fifth when Vanessa Cornelius was walked, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch.
Erica Warren smashed a two-run shot over the center field fence for the Lady Pioneers only runs of the day.
The Lady Rebels did their damage in the bottom of the fifth, however, to take a 6-2 lead and secure the victory.
“We played some of our best defense of the year tonight but that doesn’t mean a thing unless you can hit and score some runs.
“We have cut down on our errors every game and had only two tonight, we just have to start hitting again like we did the first couple of games,” said Coach David Upton.
The Lady Pioneers’ game against Cookeville, which was originally set for Tuesday, has been rescheduled for May 2. WCHS will travel to White County on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
