Concerts to stay next to Security Federal

The Main Street Live concert series was well attended its first week and officials want to keep the buzz, in terms of location, alive.

While last week’s show featuring Hispanic groups was rained out, hundreds of people attended the first of the several scheduled free summer concerts at the grassy park next to Security Federal Savings Bank.

The venue was chosen as an alternative location to downtown due to construction issues in Court Square, but the attendance there has exceeded expectations. Consequently, the concerts will be at the park for the remainder of the summer.

“When we had our first concert, we had a tremendous amount of people who came to us and said they loved the location,” Main Street McMinnville director Chris Wilson said of the change.

“It’s a beautiful, soft, cool location. The trees are wonderful, the natural stage is there and it’s perfect. There is great access from two sides and the parking is good around it,” he added. “No one had really thought about using that before, so we took a chance and it’s worked out very well.”
