Gaelic Storm returns to South Jackson Civic Center

If you missed it last May, you have another chance to see Gaelic Storm perform at South Jackson Civic Center on Fri., June 17 at 7:30 p.m. You know them but may not know it. Gaelic Storm was cast as the steerage band during the below-decks party in the movie “Titanic.”

Although considered a Celtic band, Gaelic Storm is all that and more. The high-energy group focuses on the rowdy hand-clapping character of a traditional pub party with dizzying dance tunes, upbeat vocals, infectious humor and haunting ballads. Since leaving Tullahoma last May, the band released their fifth album entitled “How Are We Getting Home?” which debuted on Billboard’s World Music Chart at number three. Gaelic Storm has reached a new level of popularity, moving beyond world music genre and crossing over into mainstream music. In October, the band performed on the Rock Boat 2004 with mainstream rock bands such as Sister Hazel, Gavin Degraw, Will Hoge, and Cowboy Mouth. Gaelic Storm outsold any other band in merchandise and has been asked back for Rock Boat 2005. The group is preparing to record their sixth album later this spring.

Tickets can be obtained by calling South Jackson Civic Center at 455-5321 or by visiting www.southjackson.org. Tickets are $20 adult and $15 student and can be picked up at the center’s box office.
