Motlow golf tourney raises over $15K

The tournament was a four-man scramble, with 35 teams participating in this year’s event. The tournament was divided into two flights, a Championship flight and a First flight, with prizes going to the top three finishers in each division.
The team of Hunter Sain, Mark Hitchcock, Maurice Burger and Chad Burger took first place in the Championship flight with a 56 after going to the scorecard playoff. Finishing second was the team of Travis Barnes, Andrew Brock, Brent Brock and Joe Shelton Jr., who also turned in a 56. Ron Fryar, Ron Rigsby, Lonnie Capshaw and Crusher Morris carded a 57 for third place.
The team of Andy Link, Freddy Davenport, David High and Wayne Sarritt placed first in the First flight with three teams finishing with a 62. Chris Trammel, Adam Barnes, Scott Brown and Ed Kelly placed second with a 62. Also carding a 62 was Phil Whisenhut, Jerry Steakley, Ted Pearcy and Tommy Anderson.
Prizes were also given out on several holes for closest to the pin and longest drive. Closest to the pin on No. 2 was Ed Kelley, No. 7 Bill Franklin and on the fourth hole Ron Fryar. Longest drive on No. 3 went to Tom Schwartz and on No. 18 Andrew Thompson had the long drive.
The tournament has been sponsored over the last five years by Blood Assurance, Dr Pepper Bottling, River Park Hospital and Security Federal.
“These tournaments have been extremely successful for the college raising more than $79,000 with proceeds being used primarily for scholarships,” said Motlow representative Delene Stone.
“This success is due in a large part to Thorold Ramsey, Motlow College Foundation Trustee and long-time civiv supporter in McMinnville and Warren County, who has coordinated the tournament. Because of his hard work and enthusiastic support, the tournaments have flourished.”
This year’s tournament raised over $15,400, which is slightly above last year’s proceeds.
