Takeaways the difference in Eagles’ win over Tigers
With 10 turnovers in the first period, Irving College never had a chance against Morrison in seventh- and eighth-grade action Thursday afternoon. The Eagles, playing in front of their home crowd, rolled past the Tigers 38-20.
With the win, Morrison’s boys finished their regular season with a perfect 10-0 record.
First period action saw the Eagles’ size overwhelm the smaller Tiger team. Zach West hit seven of the Eagles’ 14 points in the period, while Dustin Smith had Irving College’s only point.
Bobby Fults ran off six straight points to open the second period, while turnovers continued to plague Irving College. Up 20-2, Morrison added eight more points with baskets from Jonathan Holland, Jared Underwood and Casey Dunn. The Tigers’ Scott Terry and Kalin Young closed out the period with one basket each as the Eagles held a 28-6 lead at the break.
Morrison went to its bench in the second half, but the Eagles still scored the first six points of the third period. Irving College got two baskets each from Terry and Young. Travis Parson hit from the top of the key for Morrison as the Eagles led 36-14 by the end of the third.
Morrison had just one basket in the final period as Charlie Krickel hit from the baseline. Terry added a basket and Cody Loggins hit back-to-back buckets for the Tigers to close out the game as the Eagles picked up the victory.
Fults led the Eagles with 16 points, West hit for nine, Dunn added four, Jared Underwood hit for three, and Holland, Parson and Krickel had two points each.
For the Tigers, Terry hit for eight points, Young added six, Loggins had four and Dustin Smith scored two points.
