Pig Day is coming this Friday

If you?d like to visit the Southern Standard for a free hot dog or BBQ sandwich during our customer appreciation day this Friday, you?re more than welcome.

If you?d like to see how many hot dogs you can wolf down in 4 minutes, that?s OK too.

For the second year in a row, the Standard is holding a hot dog eating contest as part of its annual Pig Day festivities. Last year, six competitors squared off in a down-to-the-wire race that saw Travis Holland of Main Street Bakery emerge as the winner.

Anyone wanting to enter this year?s hot dog contest can simply drop their name and phone number by the newspaper office. The contest will be this Friday at 1 p.m. to kick off customer appreciation day festivities. The public is invited to stop by our office from 1 to 3 p.m. for free hot dogs, BBQ, chips and dessert.

The newspaper will continue the tradition of what?s been a popular count the pigs promotion. In this Wednesday?s paper, count every pig or hog reference for your chance to win $100. Pictures of pigs should also be counted.

The only catch is you better count quick. The pig count total should be submitted to the newspaper office by Friday evening. Don?t miss out on the fun as the Standard prepares for yet another festive Pig Day.
