Elementary tournament tips off Monday

The Warren County Elementary Basketball Association’s championship tournament tips off Monday night at the Charlie Dalton Gym, with Eastside’s girls and Dibrell’s boys entering as the No. 1 seeds.

With the tournament going to a five-team format this year, the top three seeds on the boys’ and girls’ sides of the ledger will automatically move to the semifinal round, while the fourth- and fifth-seeded teams will have to win their way into the semis after facing off in the first round Monday night.

Action begins at 5:30 Monday, with Morrison’s fourth-seeded boys facing the fifth-seeded Tigers from Irving College. At 6:45, Irving College’s girls will take on the No. 5 Lady Warriors of Centertown, while Dibrell’s No. 3 girls will face No. 2 Morrison at 8 p.m. for a spot in the finals.

The semis will continue Thursday, beginning at 5:30 with No. 2 Centertown’s boys facing the Eastside Bulldogs. Dibrell’s undefeated boys team will take on the Morrison-Irving College winner at 6:45, and Eastside’s girls will face either Irving College or Centertown at 8 p.m.

Four games are on tap for Saturday, beginning with the girls’ consolation game at 5 p.m. Losers of the boys’ semifinal games will battle for third place at 6:15, and the girls’ title matchup is set for 7:30, with the boys’ finals and presentation of the season championship trophies and all-tournament awards to follow.
