Golf tournament raises money for family of fallen deputy

On Thursday law enforcement officers from middle Tennessee converged on the Collins River golf course to help raise money for the family of Shane Tate. Tate was the Grundy County sheriff’s deputy that was killed in the line of duty two weeks ago.
The proceeds from the tournament along with sponsorship revenue will be used to help the Tate family. Tate left five children behind. Collins River owners Dwight and Hannah O’Neal were delighted to host the charity scramble and provided lunch for the participants to show their appreciation for the golfers who came out to support this worthy cause.
The local team of Terry Smith, Jackie Matheny Jr., Jackie Matheny Sr. and Tommy Myers carded a low round of 17-under par to take first place.
Second place went to the team of Tim Price, Marc Martin, Alan Watson and Hunter Sain who also turned in a 17-under par round, but lost on a score card playoff.
Myles Baldwin, Danny Sutton, Darek Kirby and Lenny Whitfield finished third with a round of 13-under par.
Closest to the pin on No.7 was Tim Price and Rod Water had the longest drive on No.9.
A memorial fund for the Tate family has been set up at Citizens Tri-County Bank.
