Pioneers reach finals-Boys top Blackman, Riverdale

The WCHS boys tennis team is in search of a District 7-AAA tournament title this week in Cookeville. The Pioneers made it through the first two rounds on Monday with wins over Blackman and Riverdale.

In the opening round against Blackman the Pioneers defeated the Blaze 4-2. Andee Vance defeated Chris Huber 6-0, 6-1 in the No.1 singles spot. Playing in the No. 2 spot for Warren County Salem McGregor fell to Jim Chapman 6-3, 0-6, 4-6. Matthew Black put the Pioneers back in the win column playing in the No. 3 spot as he defeated Drew Ellsworth 6-2, 6-2. Dakota McGregor won his match over Randy Sihalath 6-4, 6-1 in the No.4 spot. Beck Spurlock fell to Jim Powers 2-6, 6-7.

Vance and Sterling McClain won their doubles match 8-3 over Tony Lucky and Sihalath.

In semifinal action against Riverdale the Pioneers won 4-3. Vance defeated Riverdale’s Jonathan Foti 6-3, 6-4. Salem McGregor fell 6-7, 1-6 to Jordan Edwards. Black defeated Preston Perry 6-4, 6-1. Dakota McGregor fell to Kevin Kraph 1-6, 1-6. Robby Brown playing in the No. 5 spot defeated Garrett Ledbetter 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.

In doubles play Salem McGregor and Black fell to Foti and Kraph 8-9. But Vance and McClain turned things around by downing Edwards and Petty 9-8.

The Lady Pioneers season came to an end in the first round after Warren County fell to Cookeville 0-4.

Holly Ray fell 1-6, 2-6 to Hope Proctor. Anne Claire Roberts fell to Corbin Ehlert 1-6, 0-6. Jamie Bush fell 0-6, 0-6 to Daphane Ekmans and Sarah Weber dropped her match to Lauren Staton 3-6, 2-6.

The Lady Pioneers finished the season with a 3-11 record.

The Pioneers were scheduled to play in the finals on Tuesday.
