Centertown resident airlifted after fall from 12-foot ladder

A Centertown resident was airlifted to Erlanger on Monday after he fell from a ladder while trimming trees.

Frank Bond, 60, is currently recovering at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga after suffering several injuries including a broken pelvis, broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Bond was trimming trees at the Pigeon Hill Road home of his mother-in-law, Irene Deberry, when the accident occurred. He was at the top of a 12-foot ladder cutting branches above his head with a chain saw.

While Bond was not directly under the branch he was cutting, it snapped back in an awkward way and fell on top of him. The blow from the limb knocked him off the ladder. He was able to throw the chain saw away from his body, but wasn’t able to do much to cushion his fall.

Deberry was unaware her son-in-law had fallen when she went out to check on his progress. She saw him on the ground and called for help when he was unable to get to his feet.

Bond was on the way to River Park Hospital by ambulance when paramedics determined he should be transported to Erlanger.

Bond is known for his homemade molasses that he sells at the annual Civic Center craft show.
