Morrison girls roll into WCEBA title game

Morrison’s Lady Eagles had little trouble reaching the championship game of the Warren County Elementary Basketball Association tournament Monday.

The second-seeded squad only needed one win to reach the finals of the five-team bracket, and a big night from Rachel Mott helped them accomplish that task, as they defeated the third-seeded Eastside Lady Bulldogs 31-17.

A pair of scoring surges were the key to victory for the Lady Eagles, as they held a 7-3 lead before scoring eight unanswered points during the second quarter of play.

Ahead 15-5 by halftime, Morrison gave up four straight points to open the third, bur answered with six more of their own to enter the fourth quarter up 21-9, then kept momentum on their side by working the ball to the low post and starting the fourth with two more buckets.

Mott was on the receiving end of several successful high-low passes, and finished with a dozen points to lead Morrison’s efforts. Erin Dunn and Taylor Grissom had six apiece.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Kateland Moore who scored six of her team-high eight points in the fourth quarter. Emily Womack finished with three.

Morrison will face the winner of Thursday’s Dibrell-Centertown game in Saturday’s finals, while the Lady Bulldogs will take on the loser of that contest in the consolation game.
