First National edges Sundrop in final frame
First National Bank came through with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Monday, rallying to clip Sundrop 7-6 and jumping into a tie for first place in the 13-14-year-old Babe Ruth League.
Both FNB and Sundrop stood at 5-2 after the contest, a game ahead of Walker Nursery.
Lou Christian took the win on the mound for First National, pitching Monday’s first inning and allowing three hits but no runs. Casey Myers came on to work the final four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and seven walks. He fanned seven batters.
At the plate, Christian and Myers both had two hits, while Dylan Keith, Cody Ray and Houston Simons had one each.
Matthew Black had two hits for Sundrop, and took the loss on the hill, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks. Mark Harvey pitched three innings of relief, giving up four runs on five hits.
Tyler Gilley and Derek Mikkola had two hits apiece for Sundrop, while Patrick Harvey, Hector Labradu, Scott Murphy and Matt Wilson had two each.
A four-run fourth gave Sundrop a 6-3 lead before First National’s comeback in the fifth.
Dakota Taylor, Garrett Pack, Joshua Miller and Bobby Lorance all had two hits for Walker, while Gage Lance, Lucas Majors, Matt McColloch and Ridge Nunley had a base knock each.
McColloch got the win, pitching 6-2/3 innings and fanning four men, while Nunley closed out the game.
Rotary Club got two-hit games from Charlie Hennessee and Dakota Logan, while Cameron Bond, Cody Deason, Justin Kelly, Beck Spurlock, Jordan Steiner and Ryan Woodlee had a hit each. Deason pitched three innings, allowing five runs, while Hennessee came on in the fourth, surrendering 10 hits and seven runs to take the loss.
