Covenant Academy holds 1st-ever golf tourney
SUMMITVILLE — Supporters of Covenant Academy flocked to Willowbrook Golf Course Saturday morning, to take part in the Christian school’s inaugural golf scramble.
Over $4,000 was raised at the 29-team, four-person scramble, with proceeds going to the new elementary school, which includes preschool and daycare ages.
The team of Jerry Steakley, Brandon Sims, Brad Golden and Troy Jones came away with first place in the championship flight Saturday, finishing with a score of 58.
Delbert Ray, Butch Patterson, Mike Hopkins and David Boatman took second, edging Ed Geer, Vaughn Wilson, Sammy Burrows and Kirk Pender on a scorecard playoff after both teams shot a 59.
In the first flight, Ted Pearcy, Ed Brannon, Ricky Meeks and Phillip Fults took first place, winning a scorecard playoff with two other teams who all shot a 57.
Mike Oettinger, Wayne Grissom, Wendell Dishman and Fred Davenport were second, while Chris Madewell, Jeff Lee, Donnie Harris and Todd Willmore came away with third.
Tournament organizers expressed their appreciation to their hosts at Willowbrook, as well as the numerous sponsors of this year’s event.
“Silver” level sponsors Bridgestone/Firestone, Freddie and Diane Morton and Exchange Furniture. Apex Construction, Pioneer Building Supply and Collins Physical Therapy Services were all “Bronze” level sponsors, and were joined by several hole sponsors, as well as donors of both money and prizes.
