County to give away free tarps for trucks

According to local officials, the program, funded by a grant from TDOT, will provide a free 8×10 foot tarpaulin to the first 125 residents who bring at least one bag of recyclable materials to the fairground convenience center Thursday, May 26 beginning at 8 a.m.
Melanie Lanier, of the director of accounts department, said the event is an effort to reduce litter on Warren County roads.
“We’re trying to encourage people who own trucks and carry their trash off without any covering on the back to tarp the bed to keep any debris from flying out on the road or causing danger to other drivers,” Lanier said.
Lanier said recyclable items include aluminum cans, cardboard or paper.
“We wanted to give people a little challenge this year,” Lanier said of the new recyclable requirement, “and encourage them to recycle.”
