Brandon Shelby returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown to lead Tennessee Tech to a 16-10 victory over VMI on Saturday.
Shelby picked off Josh Lyles’ pass in the fourth quarter to put the Golden Eagles (2-1) ahead 16-3. Gary Price scored on a 24-yard pass later in the quarter for VMI (0-3).
The Golden Eagles scored on a 1-yard run by Derek White in the opening minutes in the first quarter. After a scoreless second quarter, VMI’s Grant Harris recovered a blocked punt to set up Barrett Way’s 32-yard field goal. The Golden Eagles responded with a 24-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the third quarter.
Tennesee Tech gained 404 yards, compared to 274 for VMI.
