Ruby Lee Starr (Moore), 69

She was born May 20, 1935, in McMinnville, TN to Charles Colville and Maude Ella Moore.
Ms. Starr graduated from Central High School in 1953 and attended Samford University (formerly Howard College) in Birmingham, Alabama where she was an Alpha Gamma of Phi Mu. Ms. Starr graduated from Samford with an A.B. in Journalism/ English. She started her Master’s work at Syracuse University, NY., and completed it at Towson University, MD where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Professional Writing. In 1958 she married Charles Robert Starr and moved to Maryland.
Ms. Starr was the Coordinator of Publicity for The Harford County Public Library system, Personnel Manager at Survice Engineering and an Employment Specialist for the Maryland State Department of Education.
As a member of University Baptist Church, Ms. Starr served as Chairperson of the Personnel Committee, Director of the Touch and Glow puppet troupe and teacher for the Nursery.
Ruby loved music and enthusiastically supported the music program at University Baptist Church. During the late 1960s and early 70s she was an active member of the League of Women Voters.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; her two daughters Jocelyn Starr Parks of Perugia, Italy and Melissa Starr Markham of Lewes DE; a grandson, Jonathan Parks of Perugia, Italy; her mother Maud Ella Moore and a brother Charles Thomas Moore of Trenton; two nieces, Katherine Ann Betts of Milan, TN and Mary Margaret Moore of Cookeville; and a grand niece, Lauren Betts.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Mt. View Cemetery.
