Totals are in: Relay for Life raises $95K

The money is in and counted. Warren County’s second annual Relay for Life raised just over $95,000 — a $20,000 increase over last year’s event — to fight the scourge that is cancer.

“We want to recognize and congratulate all of the teams not only for the money generated, but also for their hard, hard work and dedication,” said Relay for Life event chair Carole Cathcart.

The signature fundraising event of the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life is the largest cancer-fighting event in the nation. The local event took place last month and featured hundreds of participants from across the community who walked the night away at Nunley Stadium’s track over a 12-hour period. The event also featured an array of food, games and other events to raise cancer-fighting funds.

Though this year’s Relay for Life is in the history books, Cathcart noted funds can still be accepted through Aug. 15. To learn more, call Westwood Church of Christ at 473-8434.
