The McMinnville Swim Team has scheduled a five-meet competition schedule, and is preparing to begin their 2004 season.

The swimmers will compete in the Recreational Aquatics Conference Events (RACE) alliance, with other middle Tennessee teams this year including Shelbyville, Sewanee, Fayetteville, and Lewisburg. Joining the alliance this year will be the Winchester Swim Team.

Coach Paige Z. Northcutt is excited about her team’s upcoming meets.

“The swimmers have spent three weeks building endurance, and I think they’re ready to swim,” she said.

MST swimmers practice Monday through Friday, for two hours each day, at the Gilley Pool.

The team held a practice meet at the Gilley Pool last Sunday, where most of the local swimmers swam in two individual events and a relay event.

President Leslie Hayes said she was pleased with the excitement she saw during the practice meet.

“We have more swimmers this year in all categories,” she said, “and the McMinnville Team should be more competitive in our league than we have ever been before.”
