Lady Broncos stumble in second half, fall to MTCS
Tuesday night the Lady Broncos entertained Middle Tennessee Christian in the Boyd-Stanley gym. After a hard-fought first half, the Lady Cougars edged the Lady Broncos in the second half to take the 45-32 victory.
Amanda Prater opened the game with back-to-back baskets for the Lady Broncos and added two more baskets by the end of the period. But Lady Cougar Becky Brock had the hot had as she hit four 3-pointers to give MTCS an 18-14 lead by the end of the period.
The second period was a little rough for the Lady Broncos, as their offense stalled with just four points in the period. A solid defense performance by Boyd held the Lady Cougars in check during the second period, though, and the two teams went into the break with the Lady Broncos trailing 26-18.
The third period was a defensive battle on the boards as Tabitha King cleared the middle for the Lady Broncos. Boyd opened with four quick points, but MTCS ran off seven straight with the help of a 3 by Brock. Lyndsey King closed out the period with a basket for Boyd as the Broncos trailed 35-24 at the end of the third.
In the final period the Lady Cougars tried to run time off the clock by spreading the floor. Prater and Alex Porter banked in baskets as time ticked off the clock. The Lady Broncos were forced to foul sending MTCS to the line as the Cougars hit four out of seven to secure the win.
For the Lady Broncos, Prater led with nine points. Porter hit for seven, Jennifer Laxton had six, Tabitha King had four, Powell, Lyndsey King and Emily Newby had two points each.
For the Lady Cougars, Brock led with 16 points followed by Hannah Pack with 10 points.
