Man arrested for third meth lab in a year

A local man has been arrested with a methamphetamine lab for the third time in a year, with the latest occurrence leaving him held under a half-million dollar bond.

The suspect, Donovan Wood, 40, was charged with manufacture of meth after an alleged lab was found in his truck outside Northside Market last week. The lab was discovered after narcotics officers took him into custody on unrelated charges when they spotted him walking into the market. The lab components were found inside his vehicle during a subsequent inventory.

The find marks the third time Wood has been charged with operating a meth lab in the past 10 months. On two prior occasions during March and May of last year, Wood was arrested at a residence on Chambers Street, allegedly operating a lab inside the house. He was free on bond awaiting trial for both of the prior events when he was arrested last week. The fact he twice violated the terms of his bond yielded the unusually high bond this time.

According to McMinnville Police Investigator Lt. Derwin Adcock, recidivism in meth cases is common. However, getting caught three times in under a year is highly unusual.

“We’ve caught people with meth labs multiple times so that, in itself, isn’t unusual,” Adcock said. “But, to catch someone with three different labs in such a short amount of time is a new one on me.”
