Boyd swept at Gordonsville
Boyd Christian hit the road Friday night to take on the Tigers and Lady Tigers of Gordonsville. Gordonsville swept the doubleheader, with the Lady Broncos falling 70-21 and the Broncos losing 91-35.
In the girls game Gordonsville scored double digits in all four quarters. The Lady Broncos struggled with turnovers and by the half trailed the Lady Tigers 36-6.
In the second half things didn’t get much better for Boyd as they continued to struggle on offense as they posted eight points in the third and seven in the fourth. Gordonsville added 16 in the third and 18 in the fourth for the win.
For the Lady Broncos, Tabitha King had 10 points, Amanda Prater hit for seven, Jennifer Laxton and Alex Porter had two points each. Gordonsville was led by Carly Neilson with 17 points.
The Broncos had a rough first period as the Tigers scored at will hitting for 30 points in the period, while Boyd netted eight. The Broncos bounced back in the second period with 14 points as the Broncos defense held the Tigers to seven points, but still trailed at the half 37-22.
In the third period Boyd’s offense managed only one basket. Gordonsville ripped the net for 25 in the quarter. The Tigers offense still had control in the final period with 29 points. Boyd still had problems from the field as the Broncos had 11 points in the period.
For the Broncos, Clint Patterson and Dustin Curtis had nine points each. James Dunlap hit for seven, Dillon Childers had five, Matthew Hancock had three and Brooks Palmer added two points. Jon Austin led the Tigers with 21 points and Shane White chipped in 15 points.
