It’s sad more citizens did not attend Memorial Day ceremony
What a wonderful Memorial Day ceremony at the Warren County Airport on the morning of May 27. Congratulations and a hearty “thank you” to Charles Norton and his most efficient staff for a wonderful and most meaningful tribute to our fallen comrades from previous wars.
It was a most inspiring program, and the ceremony was on time, concise, fast-moving, and appropriate for the occasion. The message presented by McMinnville’s own General James Franklin Hennessee was directed appropriately and poignantly at all of us from one who “had been there.” The roll call of fallen comrades brought memories of what might have been if they had lived to enjoy the blessing we share daily.
The color guard and firing squad provided their usual proficient duties, and the program was capped off by the “Pledge of Allegiance” led by Wayne Wolford, a thoughtful and eloquent prayer by I.V. Hillis, a beautiful a cappella rendition of the national anthem by Jenny Jones, and, finally, a haunting and beautifully played “Taps” by Mike Chilcutt and Derek Masters.
It’s sad more of our citizens did not attend to honor so many who gave their all for our wonderful freedoms.
In appreciation,
James Dillion Jr.
