Fishing rodeo Saturday

The annual fishing rodeo for handicapped persons, sponsored by VFW Post 5064, will be held Saturday at Gribble Farm Lake on Shellsford Road.

The event, which is hosted by Joe and Phillip Gribble, will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The rodeo is open to all handicapped persons of the local post’s service area. Enrollees in Cheer Mental Heath, Opportunities Inc. and Pacesetters, Inc. programs are all invited as special guests.

There is no age limit for Saturday’s rodeo. However, young children participating in the day’s events should be accompanied by an adult.

The fishing area at Gribble Farm Lake is wheelchair accessible, and additional seating will be provided for other participants. Poles, lines and bait will also be provided, but anyone wishing to do so may bring his or her own fishing equipment.

Prizes will be up for grabs at the rodeo, and will be furnished by A.O. Smith, a company which also provides Pacesetters and Opportunities workers with parts assembly contract work.

The VFW and VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be presenting special momentoes to participants, and hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for lunch.

Sixty-three fishermen competed in last year’s event, which was attended by over 100 people.
