Lady Broncos swept on road by South Pittsburg

The Lady Bronco softball team dropped a twin bill on the road Thursday, losing both ends of a doubleheader with South Pittsburg.

Boyd fell 10-0 in Thursday’s opening game, and although coach Heather Campbell said her team improved in the second contest, South Pittsburg came out on top of that game as well, winning 6-2.

“We didn’t hit the ball very well, and it seemed like everything they hit found a gap. It was just one of those days for us,” Campbell said.

“We made some good defensive plays in the second game, and even turned a couple of double plays. We played much better in the second game, but still couldn’t come out with the win.”

Abbye Barnes went 2-for-3 on the day, reaching base three out of five times to finish as one of the Lady Broncos’ few offensive highlights. Amber Hodge turned in an RBI and a base hit.

The Lady Broncos fell to 1-4 with the losses. The team travels to Trousdale County for a doubleheader Tuesday, and hosts Gordonsville Thursday for a 4 p.m. start.
