WCMS sweeps Shafer; now 6-0

Warren County Middle’s baseball team kept rolling along Saturday, improving to 6-0 with a doubleheader sweep of Gallatin’s Shafer Middle School Sunday.

The Pioneers got multi-hit games from four different players, and only allowed three hits and one earned run, on their way to a 9-5 victory over the Green Wave in Sunday’s opening game.

Brooks Majors got the start on the hill, and earned the win after working the first two innings and giving up just one hit, one unearned run and two walks. Joshua Bratcher pitched four innings of relieve, giving up one earned run on two hits and striking out two. Colby Killian worked the seventh, striking out all three batters he faced.

At the plate, Coty Grissom went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Jevon Ramsey and Killian were both 2-for-3. Jacob Bratcher went 2-for-4, with Joshua Bratcher, Nicholas Cantrell and Jordan Underhill collecting the Pioneers’ other hits.

Ramsey, Killian and Cantrell also drove in runs for the Pioneers.

The second game of the twin bill was all Warren County, as Joshua Paz worked all five innings, allowing just one hit, in a 9-1 Pioneer win.

Brooks Majors went 2-for-3 from the leadoff spot in Game 2, with Killian turning in a 2-for-3 day. Ramsey, Joshua Bratcher, Jacob Bratcher, Grissom, Underhill and Michael Jones also had hits for the Pioneers, who collected 10 hits on 23 at-bats.

The Pioneers have a busy week ahead, with doubleheaders Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Thursday afternoon they will host Smyrna Middle for a 5:30 start, Friday Murfreesboro Siegal will come to town for a noon twin bill, and Saturday they will take on Beech’s T.W. Hunter at noon. All this week’s games will be played at Ramsey Field.
