Nominations are being taken for top citizen
The club established the award in 1975 and set up the following guidelines as the basis for selecting the honoree:
• Nominations are to be made by the general public.
• Persons nominated must live in the Morrison area or have some connection, past or present, with the Morrison community.
• Nominees will be judged on either church work, community activities or public service, or a combination of the three.
A panel of judges, who will base their decision on the r?sum?s submitted, will pick the winner. The judging will be based primarily on the activities of the nominees during the past 12 months, but consideration will also be given to contributions made over the years.
The 2001 Citizen of the Year recipient was Gary Prater.
Members of the Ruritan Club are not eligible for the award, but a Ruritan of the Year will be named and will receive the Arry Youngblood Memorial Award at the same time as the Citizen of the Year.
The selections will be made by a secret ballot of club members, but the identity of the recipient will not be revealed until the banquet.
All nominations for Citizen of the Year should be mailed to Mike Holland, 1796 Cooper Road, Morrison, Tenn. 37357 and marked “Citizen” on the outside of the envelope. This will assure the nomination will not be opened until it is turned over to the judges for their consideration.
Holland, chairman of the Citizenship Committee, urges those who send in nominations to state why their nominee should be considered. In the past, nominations have been received that only contained the person’s name.
