WCMS softball falls on the road

Warren County Middle School Lady Pioneer softball squad traveled to Murfreesboro Friday to take on Central Middle to open its season, but fell short in the contest, losing 11-3.

Central Middle scored four runs in the first ending with five hits off WCMS pitcher Ashley McBee. WCMS had trouble getting their bats going in the first three endings.

In the third Central Middle scored two runs early to take a 6-0 lead, then with two outs and bases got an inside-the-park grand slam to go on top 10-0.

In the fourth the Lady Pioneers got two runners on and then Penny Wanamaker drove a double to right-center to make it a 10-2 game.

Central Middle added another run in the bottom of the fourth 11-2, then WCMS scored its final run off a single from Elizabeth Kennamer. WCMS had three hits against Central Middle’s seven.

The Lady Pioneers are scheduled to compete in a tournament in Coffee County next weekend.
