Motorcyclist hurt in collision with car
A motorcyclist was seriously hurt Thursday afternoon when his cycle slammed into a car that pulled into his path.
The cyclist, Michael Paris, 23, remains under treatment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he is in stable condition, suffering a severe leg injury and internal injuries.
According to police reports, the accident happened at 5:36 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Smithville Highway and Needmore Road near the Shell Station.
Witnesses say Paris’ Kawasaki was traveling on New Smithville Highway when Francisco Cruz, 58, pulled his 1989 Buick onto the highway from Needmore Road. Cruz told lawmen he saw the cycle and thought he could pull out before the motorcycle got there. However, he underestimated the cycle’s speed. The cycle and car then crashed in the middle of the intersection, throwing Paris from his cycle.
Cruz was charged at the scene for driving without a license and failure to yield.
