Alleged robber formerly mistaken as a monster

A woman was robbed in her car at gunpoint as she was pulling from Domino’s Pizza Wednesday evening.

Her alleged assailant, Landon Martin, 20, was arrested a short time later after police tracked him down based on a description from the victim and a witness. He is charged with aggravated robbery.

According to McMinnville Police Lt. Derwin Adcock, the robbery happened at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday as the woman was waiting to pull onto North Chancery Street from the Domino’s Pizza parking lot. The victim told lawmen she was approached by the gunman who walked up to her driver’s window and displayed a gun.

The man directed her to hand over her money and she complied with his demands. The gunman then fled on foot.

Armed with the description, which included a distinctive jacket the man was wearing, police had an immediate suspect since some officers had seen the suspect earlier wearing a jacket fitting the description. Martin was taken into custody when he was found walking in the East End area a couple of hours following the heist. The suspect did not have a gun on his person when he was arrested.

The brush with the law was not the first for Martin, who made regional news two years ago in connection with an unusual crime. On that occasion, Martin was arrested for burglary after he broke into an apartment and was seen by a 2-year-old girl who told her mother a monster was in her bedroom. In reality, it was Martin the girl saw after he had entered through her window. The suspect fled when he was discovered.

Martin was taken into custody on that occasion when police spotted him walking in the neighborhood minutes later, carrying the only item which had been taken in the burglary – a fly swatter – which connected him to the crime.
