Lady Pioneers swept at home
The Warren County Lady Pioneer volleyball team played a District 7-AAA tri-match Tuesday against Lebanon and Blackman at home in the Charlie Dalton Gym. The Lady Pioneers fell in both matches, dropping to 3-6 on the year.
In the first match against Lebanon the Lady Pioneers came out strong in the first game taking an early lead 6-2. The Lady Blue Devils pulled within two at 6-4, but WCHS senior Tracy Medlen served four straight service points to give her team a 10-4 lead. Good blocking from Alysa Lankford and Kendra Savage helped shut down Lebanon’s attack and give the Lady Pioneers the 15-6 win.
In the second game both teams exchanged side-out over the first 12 points to tie the game at 6-6. Aggressive play at the net by Amanda Goad and Kara Youngblood kept the Lady Pioneers in the game as Lebanon opened up a 10-8 lead. Good passing and setting by Crystal Jones put the Lady Pioneers in position to take control of the game. But hard, over-powering serves from the Lady Blue Devils put them ahead for good as they won the second game 15-10.
Lebanon and WC squared off in a third game as they used the rally scoring system to settle the tie breaker.
Lebanon jumped out to an early lead 3-0. WC fought its way back to pull within one 3-2 but bad passing on Warren County’s part let Lebanon run away with the third game as they downed the Lady Pioneers 15-5 to take the match.
In the second match Warren County faced power house Blackman. The Lady Blaze barley slipped past the Lady Pioneers16-15 and 15-11.
The Lady Pioneers had the Lady Blaze down in the second game 9-2 but the more experienced Blaze battled their way back to take the final game and the match.
“We played very well tonight against both teams. A few little passing mistakes and a couple of missed serves was the difference in both games tonight,” said coach Franklin Fisher.
“Both teams are good ball clubs and in the Blackman game we really made them have to work for everything they earned. If we get our passing game back and become more effective serving, we’re going to be in good shape. The girls are starting to make a few people take notice of Warren County volleyball.”
