Boyd Christian School saw its fourth senior class graduate Thursday evening in commencement ceremonies, with 15 seniors taking the memorable walk down the aisle.

“This is one of the finest classes ever,” said school president C.N. Womack. “We’re real proud of them, their accomplishments and what they will accomplish.”

The graduating class boasted four valedictorians as four students tied for the highest grade point average. The valedictorians included Emily Michelle Hancock, Quinton Lee Huskey, Lindsay Reed Smith and Dara Michelle Webb. The salutatorian was Holly Suzanne Ferrell.

Womack, who gave the keynote address, pointed out the co-honors were earned by the students for their accomplishments in education. Womack went on to note the graduating class earned around $200,000 in combined scholarships. The scholarships include both academics and athletics.

“This has been a real active group,” Womack said. “They’ve not only excelled academically but they’ve participated in activities and organizations.”

For graduate Arne Alberts, commencement was indeed a beginning as he will continue his education when he returns to his native Germany soon. Alberts has been in America for about 11 months as an exchange student.

“It’s been great,” Alberts said, noting school here was similar to that in Germany.

Quinton Huskey, who will also be continuing his education, has been a student at Boyd since the third grade.

“I’m planning to go to MTSU and become a veterinarian so I’ve still got quite a ways to go,” Huskey said.

Cheering on their classmates were several junior marshals, all anxiously waiting until next year when they will go through the graduation line.

“I can’t wait,” said Scarlette Hodge as she passed out programs to visitors.
