Does Wal-Mart really need to sell beer to survive?
What kind of role model are you? What kind of influence do you have on those around you or those you may touch day by day? Some have declared that, ‘It isn’t anybody’s business what I do!’ But unless you live in a vacuum, nothing could be further from the truth.
Anyone who has the breath of life is a role model to someone, and may exert a tremendous influence on everyone he touches. This should indeed frighten us to a great degree.
Today our world is motivated by greed. Drug kingpins are out there ‘giving’ out their wares, knowing full well the person he gave the drug to will, more than likely, come to him for his next ‘hit.’ I have never figured out why people would put something into their body that would cause them to act in a stupid manner, causing them to be unable to control their actions.
I have cerebral palsy, which makes it most difficult to perform many daily tasks. I wouldn’t be able to use this computer without some specialized equipment that has been installed. So why would people who have perfect bodies choose to damage them through the use of a variety of drugs?
Those of you who have shopped at McMinnville’s Wal-Mart in the last few weeks have noticed the remodeling that is being done there. I noticed a sign at one of the entrance to the store, which read in part: ‘Great things in store for you.’ After having talked to several people throughout the store, customers and associates, I wondered if there was any truth to what I read.
And just prior to my seeing this little saying, I saw something that would definitely prove this remodeling isn’t being done for the benefit for the people I know and associate with. Several weeks ago I saw that they had moved the soft drink display in front of McDonald’s, virtually covering up the hamburger outlet. It caused me to wonder what was going where the soft drinks were. Last week the ‘moment of truth’ came into reality when I discovered a beer display was put there.
Doesn’t it seem a little peculiar that Wal-Mart has been in McMinnville for several decades and never needed beer as a ‘savior’ of its McMinnville store?
‘Just say no to drugs’ was once a battle cry heard all across this great land. But this message has seemingly fallen silent as some of us apparently don’t have the guts to proclaim this worthy message. Some of the Wal-Mart associates have voiced opposition to their selling beer. They were told they would either sell it or lose their job. One individual told me that Sam Walton would probably turn over in his grave if he knew this was happening.
What do we need with more beer in McMinnville? Don’t we have enough problems as it is? I was waiting for my ride home from Wal-Mart last week when I saw a man and a boy about 11 or 12 years old. The man had a Budweiser shirt on. My thoughts on that are the man is sure showing the child a good example.
‘Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.’ Proverbs 20:1.
