Middle school tennis splits with Shelbyville

Tuesday afternoon in Shelbyville, the Warren County Middle School tennis teams took on Harris Middle.

The two teams split the contest, with the Pioneers winning 7-2, but the Lady Pioneers fell 4-5. With the win the boys team improved to 5-2 on the season and the girls dropped to 1-6.

In singles action for the boys Thomas Locke took the only loss at the No. 1 spot falling to Hayato Akiyama. Seth Grissom won his No. 2-seed match over Chris Castelo 6-2. Will Marttala defeated Carlos Delgado 6-1 in the No. 3 spot. Mitchell Fuqua defeated Jody Gordan 6-2. Cory Sydenstricker defeated Jonah Jackson 6-0 and Austin Sauer defeated Carlos Delgado 6-1.

In doubles Locke and Grissom defeated Akiyama and Castelo 6-1. Fuqua and Marttala fell 2-6 to Delgado and Gordan. Sauer and Matthew Zahn defeated Akiyama and Castelo 7-5.

In girls single action Kathryn McCormick defeated Heather Cononico in the No. 3 spot and Laura Martinez defeated Erika Nodera 6-1 in the No. 5 spot. Peyton Baker fell to Sarah King 1-6. Misaki Kimura fell 1-6 to Konomi Akiyama. Jamie Tittsworth dropped her match 3-6 to Daliegh Cares.

Baker and McCormick fell to King and Akiyama 2-6 in doubles. Tittsworth and Martinez defeated Cononico and Cares 6-4 and Kimura and McCormick defeated Garcia and Paine 7-6.
