Let’s roll-Events raise funds for youth leaguers’ trip to state tourney
The McMinnville USBC youth league will hold the second week of its youth/adult ‘no-tap’ doubles tournament this Saturday at McMinnville Lanes, with proceeds going to help fund league members’ trip to the upcoming state youth tournament.
In the tournament, which held its first day of action last Saturday, adult bowlers are paired with young league members for a three-game series. The event uses ‘no-tap’ scoring, meaning scores of eight pins for youngsters ‘ or nine pins for adults ‘ are automatically counted as strikes toward the game total.
Last Saturday, Jamie Hill paired with a two of the top young performers at the event, taking first place with Chad Pugh courtesy of a 1,602 series and finishing third with Garrett Jones after a 1,568. Second place went to George Knauer and his young partner, Austin Spurling, who shot a 1,580.
Check-in for bowlers on Saturday begins at 11 a.m., and no entries will be accepted after 11:30. Bowling begins at noon.
Adults may enter more than once, although no one may receive multiple awards with the same partner, and one partner must be a MUSBC youth member. Teams can be mixed with any form: Male, female or mixed, and first- through third-place trophies will be rewarded.
Last week’s action raised nearly $250 toward the league’s state tournament expenses, and league organizers are hoping for even more participation in this weekend’s action.
