The Young Woman of the Year award was presented to Black by last year’s recipient, Myra Mara, who cited her successor’s many volunteer efforts in the community.
‘I want to thank the Jaycees for honoring me this past year and I think they have chosen a great person to honor this year,’ Mara said in presenting the award.
Black, the mother of two, serves as human resource director for the city of McMinnville and is a member of the Tennessee Personnel Management Association. She attends MTSU and was a 2003 member of Leadership McMinnville.
She is active in McMinnville Noon Exchange where she serves as secretary of the civic organization and has also served on its board of directors. She volunteers with the Go Red organization which raises awareness of women’s heart health.
At her church, Covenant Fellowship, she serves as a youth Bible teacher and works with the children’s church team. She is also on the parental advisory board for the church school, Covenant Academy.
In being presented the Young Man of the Year award by Jaycee president Trey Cope, Kell was praised as an accomplished professional in the broadcasting business, as well as being a family man and a man of faith.
Kell is station manager for ClearChannel Radio, handling the McMinnville and Sparta stations. He has an extensive background in news and broadcasting, working as an associate producer with WNAB television in Nashville and later the Daily News Journal newspaper in Murfreesboro.
In 1998, he returned to McMinnville, working with Hot Country 104 radio. He quickly climbed the ranks from sales representative to sales manager and then to station manager where he has served for several years.
The MTSU broadcasting graduate is also active in his church, serving on the Board of Deacons at First Baptist Church. He is also known as one of the voices of the Warren County Pioneers, working as both a station manager and on-air personality.
