Bessie Lee Palmer Atnip, 89

McMinnville resident and Warren County native Bessie Lee Palmer Atnip, 89, was born Dec. 22, 1917 and died Nov. 25 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following a brief illness.

A retired, self-employed cosmetic sales lady and a member of Central Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Thurman and Ocie Bell Redmon Newby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph Palmer and Jim Atnip; brothers, A.C. ‘Dick,’ J.T., Jim and Joe Newby and sisters, Grover Jean Newby, Luceal King, Naomi Waller, Faye Bice and Josie Hodges.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Charlene Palmer of McMinnville; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and David Mayfield of McMinnville; stepson and his wife, Donald and Barbara Palmer of Georgetown; five grandchildren, Josh and Jake Mayfield and Craig Palmer, all of McMinnville, Lisa Palmer of Chattanooga and Chris Palmer of Crossville; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Newby and Wayne Newby, both of McMinnville; and sister, Marguerite Loudermilk of McMinnville.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in High’s Chapel with Tim Parish and Tony Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service today at High’s. Memorial contributions may be made to Share A Christmas Dinner or Boyd Christian School.
