Antique quilts sought for show
The 10th annual Antique Quilt Show will be enjoyed at the Warren County A&L Fair Saturday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 9 from 1 – 4 p.m. at the colorful display in the Fairfield Village courthouse. To enter your heirloom, take it to the courthouse Friday, Sept. 7 from 12 -5 p.m.
Quilts are required to have been hand-pieced and hand-quilted and at least 50 years old. Also include a brief history of the quilt, consisting of current owner, approximate date of the heirloom and the identity of the original quiltmaker, if know.
Show co-chairs, Lena D. Jones and Gladys Prater, urge everyone to search their homes, attics, trunks, under beds, anywhere a quilt may be held for safekeeping and bring it in for display.
‘The Hearth and Home Quilders Guild always assists us in this endeavor, and this year, in observance of the bicentennial, they are displaying their Bicentennial wall hangings.’ said Jones.
Classes available to enter include:
Class A ‘ Pieced, Class B ‘ Appliqu??d, Class C ‘ Embroidered, Class D ‘ Crazy Quilt, Class E ‘ Unquilted Top, Class F ‘ Most Unusual and Class G ‘ Friendship. Ribbons will be awarded to first, second, third, Best of Show and People’s Choice.
‘We have very prestigious judges coming from Bell Buckle, but the most coveted honor is the People’s Choice Award, probably because it is the vote of the people that garners the honor. We welcome everyone to come out and enjoy a piece of history,’ concluded Jones.
