Armchair Quarterback: Will Pacman be worth all the trouble?
I sure hope the Titans put a morals clause in the contract of their newest thug in Pacman Jones, who has disgraced a class organization before he has even seen an NFL snap.
What is it about giving these kids money that makes them think they are some kind of gangsta who can command respect? Frankly, it’s lucky someone didn’t put a cap in him. Virginia is the state for lovers while Tennessee is the state for packing heat. He best remember that before he and his posse ease themselves up into the next bar for trouble.
I’m sure he will still be asking for a good piece of cash for his unproven self despite his conduct, making me wish the Titans would just pass on him and trade him for someone with experience. While perhaps having potential, a guy who has no more pride in his team than to humiliate himself before camp even starts up is not going to be a team player. They should have taken the Rolle kid out of Miami.
Conduct like that Jerkman Jones is what I hate about professional sports. Here we have a guy who has proved as much in a Titans uniform as I have, yet he’s walking around, already with a bunch of cling-ons (not the Star Trek) kind, trying to demand street cred in his new town. Best thing for him would have been a good thrashing from a bouncer.
Hey, same type thing happened with Tyrone Calico a while back. Sure, he was too gimpy to take the field last year, but he sure was able to cram his lanky rear in the back of his SUV to get a little luvin’ from some teeny-bopper.
Yes, criminal behavior at any level of professional sports is bad and these are just a few examples. Don’t even get me started on the UT Vols, which has turned out to be a walking work-release program. They should have a shot at the championship this year provided they get to play the games all at home so they don’t violate their probation by leaving town. Hey, I bleed orange so I’ve got the right to say it.
I realize that some accomplished athletes have always had a sense of entitlement, like they are a bit above the law. However, now it seems to have slipped down to those who merely have potential. Scouts find kids in high school who can play basketball and make them into celebrities before they even get in the NCAA. They are already thinking about shoe deals before they’ve even played a pick up game with pro-level players. It’s revolting.
Hey, my prime examples are Willis MaGehee in Buffalo, who, while recovering from a blown out knee and never have played an NFL down, demanded to be projected starter for the Bills over Travis Henry. What’s worse, he was granted the job during Henry’s injury, rewarding his whining.
Then, my favorite, you knew it was coming, we have Maurice Clarett, the Ohio State running back who played a handful of down in college and then thought he was the greatest thing since Jim Brown. Yet, he shows up at training camp so out of shape that he was being outrun in the 40 by offensive linemen. Of course, this guy, who I could smoke in the 40 at age 40, is offered a sympathy contract by the Broncos, thus, rewarding his underachievement.
Oh well, I guess we’ll continue catering to these whiners on spec that some day they may be somebody. Let’s just hope, for the Titans’ sake, their trouble makers grow up soon and get some pride about themselves instead of humiliating the very team which makes them millionaires.
