WCMS boys still perfect, girls grab their 2nd win
The Warren County Middle School boys tennis team ran its unbeaten record to 5-0, and the Lady Pioneers picked up their second win of the season, as they swept Tullahoma Wednesday at the Civic Center courts. The Lady Pioneers improved to 2-2-1 with their 6-2 win over the Lady Wildcats.
The Pioneers downed Tullahoma 8-0 as Mason McGiboney won 6-4, Brett Hitchcock won 6-2, Kazuya Saso won 6-1 and Brian Wilson won by a score of 6-2. In doubles Beck Spurlock and Robby Brown won 6-2. Salem McGregor and Chandler Cantrell won 6-4, Dakota McGregor and Matt Black won 6-0 and Garrett Rucker and Sterling McClain won 6-4.
For the Lady Pioneers, Holly Ray, Anne Claire Roberts and Bailey Haile all won by 6-0 margins, and Mio Nakagawa lost 6-4.
In doubles, Ray and Roberts won by a score of 7-5, Haile and Nakagawa won 6-0, Sarah Weber and Ashley Reuter won 6-0 and Paige Watlington and Shelby Cantrell fell 6-0.
The WCMS boys downed their guests 6-1, as only two singles matches were completed before weather halted the event. Robby Brown, playing at No. 1 for the Pioneers, won 6-3 over Shelbyville’s Conner Tracey, while Matthew Black defeated Heath Phillips by an identical margin at No. 2.
In doubles play, Brown and Black teamed to defeat Tracey and Phillips 6-4, while Chandler Cantrell and Dakota McGregor won 6-3 over Zack Smith and Austin Saddler. Salem McGregor and Garrett Rucker won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles, while Kazuya Saso and Brian Wilson won 6-0 at No. 4. Matthew Harmon and Chandler Cantrell suffered the Pioneers’ only loss, a 7-5 decision to Tracey and Feldhaus.
The Lady Pioneers won two of the three doubles matches that were completed, but fell short in the day’s only two singles matches, losing 3-2.
Haile and Nakagawa defeated Shelbyville’s Misaki Matsuda and Bailie Martin 6-0, while Sarah Weber and Stacey Rampp downed Ayanna Petrie and Brianne Jones 6-4. But Holly Ray and Roberts lost their doubles match 7-5 to Mallory Hutton and Aoi Matsuda, and both Ray and Roberts fell in singles, losing to Mallory Hutton and Matsuda, respectively.
