Playhouse marks 50th year

Although “Teddy Brewster,” played by Stan Turner, thinks he is President Teddy Roosevelt and “Jonathan Brewster,” played by Stuart Fulkerson, is a psychopathic killer, “Mortimer Brewster,” played by Morgan Underwood, doesn’t really become concerned that insanity is running rampant in his family until he discovers that his sweet aunts, played by Connie Butner and Shellene Kent-Boyle, have been “helping” lonely old men find their final resting places but putting a touch of arsenic in their homemade elderberry wine in the upcoming Community Playhouse production of the classic comedy, “Arsenic and Old Lace.”

“Arsenic” will mark the beginning of the 50th Anniversary Season of the Community Playhouse in Tullahoma. The show opened Friday night at 7:30 p.m. with a special 50th celebration reception following the performance. Additional performances are slated for Sept. 18, 24, and 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 19 at 2 p.m.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens, age 65 and older, and $8 for students. A “Buy One Get One Free” special will be offered for the matinee performance on Sept. 19. Tickets can be picked up Monday through Thursday this week from 5 to 7 p.m. at the South Jackson Civic Center or at the box office 2 hours before each show. For reservations, call (931) 455-0620 or e-mail information to tickets@communityplayhouse.org and get $1 off the regular ticket price.
