Cookeville resident and Warren County native Sarah Elizabeth Biles Capshaw, 66, died June 12 at Cookeville Regional Hospital after a six-month illness.
A secretary and insurance salesperson with Swallows & Newman Agency in Cookeville and a member of Midway Baptist Church in Cookeville, she was preceded in death by her parents, J.A. and Sarah Bell Chambers and Marcus M. and Leta Chambers Biles; first husband, Robert Adron Young in 1976; second husband, Clarence Capshaw in 1990; brother, Harry Chambers; halfbrother, Nelson Chambers; and son, Steven Micheal Young.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David Adron and Leslie Young of Cookeville; grandson, Alex Young of Cookeville; brother, J.L. Chambers of McMinnville; sister, Dorothy Chambers Norrod of McMinnville; halfbrothers, Myron Chambers of Franklin and Byron Chambers of McMinnville; special family, Leandra Layne, Gail Collins and Rodger Bumbalough, all of Cookeville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Mt. View Cemetery with Harold Jones officiating.

Jimmy Ray Simerly, 56
McMinnville resident and Blount County native Jimmy Ray Simerly, 56, died June 14 at Baptist DeKalb Hospital in Smithville after a brief illness.
A farmer, he was the son of Lloyd and Sylvia Brown Simerly, and is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Anthony Simerly of Cleveland, Ohio, Jamie and Stephanie Simerly of McMinnville; daughter, Gina Svonovec of Ohio; grandchildren, Chelsey Simerly of McMinnville, Lily and Jack Svonovec of Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Pat Simerly, Lester Simerly, Wayne and Eleanor Simerly, LeRoy and Sue Simerly, all of McMinnville.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at High’s Chapel with Nestor Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at High’s.

William Royce Turner, 66
Smithville resident and DeKalb County native William Royce Turner, 66, died June 13 at NHC after an extended illness.
A machinist with DeZurik and a member of Corinth Church of Christ, he was the son of Erbie and Martha Cantrell Turner.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie Turner; sisters, Lala Tittsworth of Green Hill community and Ethell Redman of Smithville; sister-in-law, Dona Mae Turner of Highland community; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Jan Barnes and Ron Hibdon, Burton Barnes and family, Charles and Ernesteen Cantrell, Kim Boehm and family, and numerous other friends.
Services were held Tuesday at High’s Chapel with Ricky Tubb, Nestor Stewart and Jan Barnes officiating. Burial followed at Corinth Cemetery in DeKalb County.

Dorothy Harriet Szymski, 89
McMinnville resident and Cook County, Ill., native Dorothy Harriet Szymski, 89, died June 13 at NHC Healthcare after a lingering illness.
A lithograph operator with Underwriters Laboratories in Chicago and a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, she was the daughter of Anthony and Mary Cirzan Sidor; and was preceded in death by her husband, Chester L. Szymski in 1967; son, Kenneth J. Szymski in 1994; brother, Raymond Sidor in 1984; and sister, Emily A. Baron in 2001.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jack Locke of McMinnville; son, Dennis A. Szymski of Arkansas; grandson, Jack Jr. and Cathy Locke of Franklin; granddaughter, Lea Ann and Chuck Renner of Paris, France; great-grandchildren, Madison and Michael Renner of Paris, France, and Elizabeth Locke of Franklin; several nieces and nephews; devoted friend, Chole Gillespie; and caregivers, Frances Crum and Norma Tucker.
Services were held Tuesday at St. Catherine’s with Father Jim Bretl and Father Barry Griffin officiating. Burial followed at Gardens of Memory. Memorials may be made to the St. Catherine’s Church Library and the Arthritis Foundation.

Carolyn Mae Young, 57
Rock Island resident and Van Buren County native Carolyn Mae Young, 57, died June 12 at Life Care Center in Sparta after a brief illness.
A factory worker at Findlay and a caregiver and a member of Cumberland Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Daisy Louise Yates McCormick; and was preceded in death by sister, Judy McCormick.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Sybil Martin of Rocky River; granddaughters, Ca’Sondra and Heather Martin of McMinnville; step-granddaughters, Jennie Scott and Heather Walling of Spencer; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Martin of McMinnville; step-great-granddaughters, Beth Armstrong and Kendall Walling of Spencer and Molly Mayfield of Rocky River; step-great-grandson, Shane Armstrong of Spencer; sister and brother-in-law, Treva and Olen Smith of Bone Cave; brother and sister-in-law, Daryl and Margie McCormick of Cookeville; niece, Tina Edwards of Bone Cave; nephew, Andy Smith of Bone Cave; great-nieces, Chelsea and Casey Edwards of Bone Cave; special prayer partner, Ann Womack of Spencer; several cousins, friends, and other family members.
Services were held Tuesday at High’s Chapel with Dennis Deweese officiating. Burial followed at Crain Hill Cemetery.

Dr. James L. Moore, 78
Tampa, Fla. resident Dr. James L. Moore, 78, died June 12.
In practice as a general surgeon in McMinnville for nearly 30 years and a member of the board of directors for City Bank & Trust Company from 1971-90, he retired to Tampa in 1989. He was an avid fisherman and traveler, traveling to most states and Canada with his children. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association board of directors and was given the Physician’s Recognition Award in 1969. He was a graduate of Peabody College in 1949 and the University of Tennessee School of Medicine in 1950; and served an internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Memphis in 1951 and was assistant resident at St. Thomas Hospital from 1957-60 and senior surgical resident there 1960-61.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Robert M. Waugh; sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon Buck and Janna Moore, John W. and Katherine Moore, Tom and Edna Moore, and Scott A. Moore; sister, Mary Kathryn Holt; grandchildren, Holly Rogers, Matthew Moore, David Waugh, Andrew, Christina, James, Evan, Cana, Ian, Bethany and Moriah Moore; and great-granddaughter, Chloe Rogers.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, at 4207 East Lake Avenue, in Tampa, Fla., with burial following at the cemetery.
