Broncos sunk by Pirates

Boyd’s Clint Patterson busted the net for 20 points on the road Thursday night against the Pirates of South Pittsburg. But the Pirates scored at least 20 points in each period to down the Broncos 83-67.

Boyds’ offense came out in the first period and took control as Patterson and Dustin Curtis melted the iron. Good ball movement and rebounding by the Broncos kept the Pirates at bay for most of the period. Midway through the period the Pirates made a move, going inside to Jeremy Allison as South Pittsburg pulled with in one. Boyd closed out the period with solid defense and held a 21-20 lead.

In the second period the offensive advantage went to the Pirates. Boyd still did a good job controlling the ball with Casey Hertwig and by the end of the period the Broncos posted 18 points on the board. The Pirates ran the floor using their speed for 21 points in the quarter to close out the half with a 42-39 lead.

In the second half Patterson continued to stay hot as did Curtis in the post. The entire third quarter both teams exchanged baskets with South Pittsburg hitting for 20 and Boyd posted 18. But the Broncos trailed 62-57 by the end of the period.

In the final period Boyd’s offense had trouble finding the bottom of the basket. James Dunlap and Dillion Childers worked their way in for a couple of baskets but by the end of the game the Broncos had just 10 points in the period. South Pittsburg kept the net hot on its end of the floor posting 22 points in the period for the 16 point victory.
