Semis washed out: Tournament resumes Saturday

Players going to the hoop from underwater might be a slight exaggeration, but Thursday’s rainy weather did put a damper on basketball action, including the county tournament. (Seth Wright photo illustration)
Thursday’s heavy rains, which caused the cancellation of Warren County schools, also resulted in the night’s semifinal round of the Warren County Elementary Basketball Association’s championship tournament being postponed.

Games for Thursday night are now scheduled to be played on Saturday, with the consolation and championship games moved to Monday night at the Charlie Dalton Gym.

In Saturday’s first semifinal matchup, the No. 2-seeded Lady Eagles from Morrison will face off against Warren County Middle School’s seventh-grade girls. The Lady Pioneers reached the semifinal round with a win over Eastside, while Morrison earned a bye after finishing second in the regular season.

Regular-season champs Centertown will be in action at 6:15, as the Warrior boys battle Morrison. The fourth-seeded Eagles downed Eastside Monday night to reach the semifinals.

The second girls semifinal game is set for 7:30 Saturday, and will pit the top-seeded Centertown girls against Dibrell. The Lady Wildcats, who entered the tournament as its No. 4 seed, topped Irving College on Monday to reach the semis.

Saturday’s final game will pit the Warren County Middle School seventh-grade boys against Dibrell’s third-seeded Wildcats. The Dibrell boys topped Irving College’s Tigers on Monday night to advance.

Monday’s action will begin with the girls consolation game at 5 p.m., followed by the boys’ battle for third place. The girls championship game is set for 7:30, with the boys’ final scheduled 8:45 p.m.
