Civic Center employees say take a hike with us
If all the warm weather is giving you spring fever and you’re ready to get out and about, McMinnville Parks and Recreation Department’s new hiking club has an adventure waiting for you.
The club has been an idea of Parks and Recreation employees for some time. Officials say it’s a good way to promote wellness and health in a supervised atmosphere while helping individuals become more aware of the beautiful outdoors.
“It’s some outdoor fun and exercise that someone can go and enjoy without thinking about it being exercise,” said Jeff Anselmo, recreation programmer.
Parks and Recreation has acquired the help of the Tennessee Trails Association and South Cumberland Parks to help supervise and guide these safe and interesting hiking adventures.
The hiking club will be going on trips once a month, normally on the weekends. Officials say the hikes are appropriate for all ages but children must be accompanied by an adult. Organizations and groups are also welcome.
Information about hikes such as price, date and location, and what you need to bring will be available at the Civic Center. The next adventure will be a hike through the beautiful Sycamore Falls.
The hike will be Feb. 14, and officials say it will be an easy, three-mile round-trip hike through Grundy Forest. Scenery will include waterfalls, rock formations and old growth hemlock trees. The group will leave the Civic Center parking lot around 12:30 p.m. and transportation is not provided. The cost will be $1 and anyone interested needs to contact Anselmo at McMinnville Parks and Recreation, 473-1212.
